Zig Zag Street

Lombard Street is best known for it's winding block on Russian Hill between Leavenworth Street and Hyde Street.  This infamous one-way road has eight sharp winding turns.  The design of this roadway was created in 1922 to address the issue with the hill's steepness.  The gradual bends in the road make it easier for cars and pedestrians to navigate the hill.  Due to the popularity of this spot and the slow 5mph speed limit the hill is known to be a bit of a congested traffic jam.

The World Famous Lombard Street rocks more curves than a rap video model, but although it is probably a pain to actually drive down proves quite entertaining to watch others drive down. This short, but beloved section of street has the distinction of being the most crooked street in the world!

* Runs East to West
